Self Enhancement Inc. students build a Bevin Skiff

From July 30 to August 3, 2012 a group of 6th and 7th grade students at Self Enhancement Inc. built a Bevin Skiff using basic hand tools. When they were not actively building, they were engaged in math exercises to improve skills needed in building the boat.

International 14 restoration

An International 14 from the late '40s was given to the school to use as an educational tool. The boat had been sitting in various barns around Oregon for almost 40 years and was in need of significant repair. Fortunately, the hot molded hull was in reasonable shape, although it had been sanded hard in places. There was rot around the keel, inside and out, and in the stem.

Following the repair of the hull, the boat was taken to Oregon Episcopal School where 3 Calculus classes took the lines. (See Taking Lines gallery.)

Museum of Contemporary Craft

From April 2 through April 9, 2012, Wind & Oar displayed oars, paddles, models, tools, and  pictures at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. ADXPortland, a partner of Wind & Oar, arranged with the museum to rotate in ADX members' projects and Wind & Oar was fortunate enough to be there for First Thursday. Vistors got try out the planing bench using an antique block plane.
